Pedigree

The mating of Zousain over Sangiovese is highly appealing. Zousain’s sire Zoustar was an elite racehorse and is an exceptional stallion with 34 stakes performers. He has been Champion 1st, 2nd and 3rd Season Sire and amassed over $11m in prizemoney this season. As this colt is from Zousain’s first crop, it is helpful to use Zoustar’s pedigree preferences to predict what is likely to work for his son. Of course, this colt’s successful half-brother, Son of Sangio, who is by Zoustar, is evidence of this cross being one of merit.

Firstly, the pedigree of Zousain over Sangiovese contains numerous sex-balanced duplications of exceptional sires over 8 generations, with which Zoustar has demonstrated a robust affinity. Concentrating the best qualities of these ancestors in a pedigree can be highly conducive to producing a successful racehorse. In addition, the success rate for the cross of Zoustar over Stratum mares is high, with 10 winners from 13 runners, including 1 stakes winner to date. Lastly, the female family of Sangiovese has been successful over time with particular lines also present in Zousain, including Buckpasser, Nasrullah and Star Kingdom
